I briefly tried the ScanFont demo, downloaded from the web (sorry, didn't save the URL, use your favorite search engine.) The demo does everything EXCEPT produce usable fonts: you can capture, convert, edit, save, but not do the final conversion to a font file.
It seems to be a useful tool, though it didn't appear to capture symbols I tried to paste from a graphics program. The complete package costs US$199. If anyone has the time and desire to put such a font together, I'm sure a lot of us would contribute artwork and share in the result. But it won't be me :-( Resolution should not be a problem, just start with a large image. Once converted, the image is (True-Type or Post Script) vector-based and will print at the resolution of the printer. Unless you print at under 300 DPI that should not be a problem. By the way, I've used MS Word's auto-correct function to replace typed text (such as ~CE) automatically with an imbedded picture, in this case of the CE mark. The mark flows properly with the text and, since it's a line graphic rather than a bitmap, prints at full resolution. Of course if I change font size I might choose to resize the graphic. __________________ Heber Farnsworth Physio-Control, Seattle, USA
