Thanks for everyone's inputs. I have a couple of comments:
1. We seem to be getting everything twice again!
2. It seems that making fonts is not trivial and the resolution
available may not be good enough to make them look good. Having said
that, I'll pass on 2 as yet unexplored avenues that were suggested to
me:
- a program called Scan Font (haven't tried to find it yet, but
its on the web I'm sure)
- a site http://www.cool-fonts.com/howto.htm that I haven't
visited yet
3. Lots of people suggest just pasting in the symbol using
Insert-picture or a similar method. That is precisely the method that
made us look for a better method. The insertion of a bit map into a
Word document, even when using frames (or not) causes all kinds of
formatting problems that we haven't been able to get around. We are
trying to insert something on the same scale as the font size that the
text is in. The only manageable way we have found to do this without
creating difficult formatting problems is to use Acrobat or Freehand.
Our hope was that if we could easily create fonts we would then have a
tool that everyone could use (we all have Word).
Thanks again for everyone's help.
