Re: "The eyes go first". The prevailing Western thinking has been that only the heating effect can cause possible biological effects from of microwave radiation. As a result, the two portions of the body least designed to dissipate heat are prime targets, viz. the eyes and the testicles. There are stories of WWII sailors intentionally standing in front of the on-board radar antenna just prior to shore leave on the belief that this would, at least temporarily, make them sterile. It is possible that it did more than that.
The concern over elevated body temperatures associated with fevers etc. is that temperatures of over ???oF (cannot remember the exact value) can result in irreversible cell damage. This is the same thinking applied to heat effects from microwave radiation, working much like the microwave unit in your home. Simply put, low frequencies are refelcted from your body, very high frequencies go right through, but intermediate frequencies are absorbed. As I recall, 800-1000mHz fall into the last range. Many of the recently posed biological hazards from various electronic devices has little to do with heating effects, which are virtually non- existant for the radiated levels involved. Therefore, none of the 50 years or more of research on the heating effects of microwave radiation is valid, including that affecting the eyes or testicles. The newer questions being investigated may take 10-50 years to fully answer. Remember that it took over 40 years for the U.S. goverment to admit that the men/women selected to take part in the early nuclear experiments (observers and soldiers) might have actually been harmed by the radiation. As we enter the next millineum, modern society has learned to apply and use many deadly substances and devices, viz. medicinal drugs, gasoline, chain saws, rodent poisons, and so on. However, it is not unusual for lives to be lost while we discover the dangers involved and how to deal with them.
