Hi John -- Yes, it certainly is amazing how much corrosion can appear on the edges and even bends of pre-plated sheet metal parts -- especially in Singapore, in my experience. And I mean parts that were packaged in plastic bags with desiccants.
In our case the parts were not exposed to wear (i.e. - internal sheet metal only, such as power supply enclosures, support brackets, etc.), so we found that applying an inexpensive lacquer to the affected surfaces immediately after fabrication (a) solved the corrosion problem, (b) did not introduce other problems (e.g. - preventing good grounding/bonding contact), and (c) was less expensive than post-plating. Once the products were installed in computer rooms and offices, we did not see corrosion problems developing. Good luck!
