I read in !emc-pstc that [email protected] wrote (in <OFFDBECC4D.3418BF66-ON48256E23.0031734A-48256E23.0032C125@OmniSourceAsi a.com.HK>) about 'Safety standard for LCD/PDP TVs' on Thu, 22 Jan 2004:
>Could you please advise what OSM decision is. It's not an OSM decision. > >"ANY TV, with or without a PC mode, is a 'multimedia' product, because it >falls within >the definition adopted by IEC TC100" is new to me and probably new to TV >(both CRT & flat >panel) manufacturer's industry. It might be, but that means they haven't kept track of what IEC TC100 is doing. They should. However, nothing has changed about the applicability of IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1 as a result of TC100 work. TC100 does not deal with electrical safety issues for its products, but leaves them to IEC TC108. > I always receive test reports and CE >compliant >certificates from ITS, TUV, SGS and others, and all tested to EN60065. >Until >recently, LCD/PDP TVs become popular and the debating of EN60065 & EN60950 >begins. >Could you please give me some background information and detail on the TV >to be >classified as multimedia product. IEC Guide 112 deals with the application of either IEC 600065 or IEC 60950-1 in cases where the product might appear to fall within the scope of either (or neither, in some cases) standard. It does NOT say that you MUST use 60065 for this or MUST use 60950-1 for that. The definitions adopted by TC100, which is responsible for PRODUCT STANDARDS for radios and TVs (see IEC 60315-X and IEC 60107-X) (as distinct from and complementary to safety and EMC standards), embrace radios and TVs within the definition of 'multimedia products'. If they were not so embraced, TC100 could no be responsible for those product standards. -- Regards, John Woodgate, OOO - Own Opinions Only. The good news is that nothing is compulsory. The bad news is that everything is prohibited. http://www.jmwa.demon.co.uk Also see http://www.isce.org.uk This message is from the IEEE EMC Society Product Safety Technical Committee emc-pstc discussion list.
