Hello Joe,

From the perspective of a laboratory equipment manufacturer, it is not
mandatory to get 17025 accreditation unless you want your test lab to be
recognized under the IECEE CB scheme. For laboratory equipment it's a
Marketing call if you need to get a CB report, considering that the EU now
has most of the countries that were asking for CB reports before May 1,
2004. However, I have found that countries that require CB reports will
also accept CSA test reports for Laboratory Equipment.

BTW, one of the things that will come up under ISO 17025 accreditation is
measurement uncertainty. If you decide to go this route it is wise to
determine how you will deal with this well before hand.

Best regards,
Ron Wellman
