I happen to have on hand the February 2005 issue of the Antennas and Propagation Society magazine. On page 146 there appears in the PACE Report for that issue an extensive analysis of ethics as required of engineering professionals. Vincent M. Brannigan, J.D., points out that while we may be paid for performing our duty to an employer, we have an overriding ethical duty to the public.
Professor Brannigan teaches ethics and has written extensively on this subject.
