There are many ways you can run into ESD problems but I were to guess I'd say you have a ground bounce problem. That usually happens when the discharge path is the same as the signal path. If possible have a perimeter ground connected to chassis and another ground for your signal back to the power supply. Try not to let paths run parallel. Even if they are not electrically connected you still get cross talk.
