On 27 December 2006, the European Commission published: DIRECTIVE 2006/95/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 12 December 2006 on the harmonisation of the laws of Member States relating to electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits
This is what is known as a 'codified' version of the Directive - i.e. it is a consolidation of the original directive and all its subsequent amendments, not a revised directive with new requirements. Neverthless, the new directive replaces 73/23/EC and states that it (the new directive) shall enter into force from the 20th day after publication in the OJ. I make this 16 January 2007. Therefore, by my reading, all Declarations of Conformity issued under the LVD from 16 January 2006 should refer to the new directive and not the old one. Would others care to comment on whether they agree with this interpretation?
