Hello everyone, 

One of our vendors changed the plastic material on one of the safety
controlled parts they make for us and unfortunately they cannot tell us what
lots this may have affected. The parts made from the two plastics look
identical to the naked eye….

Any suggestions on a quick and dirty test to determine the difference between
two plastic materials? We were able to determine the plastics were different
by IR Method but I am looking for a fast way to determine the difference for
finished product which is quick and nondestructive if possible.

We tried determining the difference by the melting point of the plastics by
touching a hidden surface with a soldering iron set to a precise temperature
but the plastics are too close in rating for this to be effective.

I am also looking at possibly doing an insulation resistance test to see if it
is possible to see a wide enough variation in resistance as a measure but
think this may be too difficult to get enough of a difference as the plastics
are insulating material.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
