+1 The accuracy of the hipot equipment is not relevant, as long as it is *known*. It implies just that you need to overstress your insulation with the inaccuracy of your test equipment. So if your current hipot tester is +/- 15% and your required test voltage is 1000 V +/- 1% you should carry out the test at 1150 volts, and you are sure your EUT passed the 1000 V test. At the cost of a slightly increased risk of insulation failure.
Alternately use your 0.1% DVM (you have one, don't you) to measure the exact test value and set it to 1001 (!!!) Volt before testing and verify again after testing. (it might drift with the mains voltage, so verify before *and* after) If you do not have a suitable HV probe, just make a voltage divider with 10 1% 500V resistors and calibrate it to 0.1 %. After all its 50/60 Hz, so easy to do. This method should be acceptable to your auditor, if he is metrological competent. Regards, Ing. Are you planning to make something whose insulation is so finely judged that it would pass at 100% of the test voltage, but fail at 102.5%?
