In or out of the notches?  I'll agree that outside the notches there is no
question when a BPL system is operating. BPL is being proposed by some as one
of the command/control link methods for the Smartgrid.  The EMC Society is
pushing the folks working on IEEE P2030 to consider EMC as an important design
parameter for Smartgrid.

It hasn't been demonstrated on European mains distribution systems. Such 
trials that have been carried out have not produced encouraging results.

Does Smartgrid require more bandwidth than is available in the existing 
Utilities band , roughly 90 to 150 kHz? There seems to be no need to 
send high-speed data over the distribution network; there are plenty of 
existing and future ways to do that.
