John,
That old straight six didn't have much power though so there was lots of
time to decide what to do.
If my 5.0 1979 Mustang (2900 lbs.) had the throttle linkage stick, I
wouldn't have much time to react. Even at 70 mph it would hit the next
car inline very quickly. The engine is about 1/4 of the car's weight and
it is very strong.
