For circuits protected by a GFCI, the orientation of the ground pin, or even the presence of the ground pin, is of no consequence. GFCI-protected circuits are kitchen, laundry, bath, garage, outdoors.
The GFCI operates when the L and N difference current exceeds 5 mA.
