>>Well, Southgate has insurance, fire protection, good lighting

I understand what you are saying but you need to take a driving tour of Detroit
to get a feel for what I am talking about.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't find quality space for close to free. Many
cities around Detroit are begging for any attention possible.

As far as I know the Pontiac SilverDome is still standing and pretty much empty
most of the time.

Look below, it is going to auction with n_o reserve_ in November!

This is from Wikipedia!

They could buy it!! ;-)

If they did that, vendor space would not be an issue.. :-) And there is plenty
of parking!
Full scale models would be definite possibility then! ;-)

I remember the big debate that took place when the Silverdome was constructed
as it was a big tax issue as you can imagine.

I was able to take a behind the scenes tour of that facility before it opened.
It was pretty impressive back then.

Pontiac is now in serious financial trouble.

Usage after Lions' move to Ford Field

The Lions moved to Ford Field <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Field>
at the beginning of the 2002 NFL season
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_NFL_season>. When the World Hockey
Association <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Hockey_Association>
(WHA) tried to re-introduce itself, the new WHA
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Hockey_Association_%28proposed%29>
Detroit team was slated to play their home games at the Silverdome.
Plans were also mooted for a Windsor
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor,_Ontario>-based Canadian Football
League <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Football_League> team
which could have used the dome for possible playoff games, but that team
also did not materialize.

After the Lions relocated, activity in the Silverdome dropped
drastically. However some usage was still present. Annually, Jehovah's
Witnesses <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah%27s_Witnesses> used the
Silverdome from the late 1970s to 2004. Due to talk of renovation in
2004, the Witnesses opted to travel to The Dow Event Center
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dow_Event_Center> in Saginaw
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saginaw,_Michigan>, and the SeaGate
Convention Centre
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SeaGate_Convention_Centre> in Toledo, Ohio
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo,_Ohio> for their District
Conventions.^[20]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Silverdome#cite_note-19> Between
2003 and 2006, the parking lot was used as a drive-in theater
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-in_theater>.

The Silverdome was used for Monster Jam
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Jam> on January 7, 2006. It was
also used as a practice facility for the AFC
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Football_Conference> Champions
Pittsburgh Steelers <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_Steelers>
for Super Bowl XL <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XL>, with the
NFL adding FieldTurf <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FieldTurf>, which was
later donated to a local high school. There was also a celebrity flag
football <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_football> game that Saturday
which served as the last football event ever at the Silverdome.

Many attempts to sell the Silverdome have failed.^[21]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Silverdome#cite_note-20> ^[22]
However, the city of Pontiac recently announced in October 2009 that the
property will go to auction with no minumum bid, and that zoning
regulations would be relaxed for any buyer in order to spark
development^[23]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Silverdome#cite_note-22> . The
Silverdome will be auctioned by Williams & Williams on behalf of the
City of Pontiac in November 2009.^[24]
