I got roughly 22 years (1986 - 2008) out of mine. If I put a new hard
drive in it, and could figure out a usable media to reload the OS from,
it would still work. It was getting a bit crotchety in its old age,
needed to reseat the cards in the backplane every 6 months or so. But,
really, a 1 MIPS CPU today is glacially slow. I had one app left on it,
which monitored a bunch of temperature, etc. sensors around the house,
logged the data and put a display on some LCD displays around the
house. I finally moved that app onto my Linux server machine, so there
was no further use for the system. I did have some cool software (for
the time) on it which I've never ported, such as a graphics library
ported over from NASA.
