I use webcam!
I changed focus to about 5cm and mounted webcam to the body of spindle.
I use that to locate holes to align PCB material.

I recompile some webcam software (I need to dig to found what one) and
make software crosshair onto image.
So now I use procedure like this:

I start webcam software and place window in place where EMC2 draws
movments. Then I click right button and make attribute for that (webcam)
window to be Always on top. Now I can focus on EMC2 and jog machine and
have nice (BIG) webcam with crosshair.

Sadly I fail to implement webcam as another tab in axis. My C
programming knowledge is very very basic( near Nill)
I was shure that this widget is very usable and I use it a lot. Of
course the center finder can do similar thing but.... You need to put
center finder (probe) to spindle and after that put tool back. I have
mounted webcam in body of spindl and is permanently on. Just need to
remember that camera crosshair centre is at Y+63mm.

If this is implemented in axis then there can be improved to
automaticaly move to hole center, measure stock... etc...

Just one warning
If you mount cheap webcam then set focus to some usable distance (I have
focus on 5cm but is ok to 2cm too) and fix it with some glue. If you
change focus when running the center line is moved as lenses isn't in
dead center and any difference are hughe magnified. And there is need to
align camera paralel to the spindle as accurate as possible. (Not hard
just tedious).
