You can freeform-machine worm with a home-made cutter (effectively a
tap with an odd thread angle).
It would have poor angular pitch accuracy, so you would then need to
measure it accurately and apply leadscrew compensation. You could then
use the compensated CNC table to make a better worm for itself.
