My lathe that I did an EMC2 conversion is a Anilam Lathe Mate with a YAM 
1422 lathe.  It's made from a manual lathe, carriage removed and replaced 
with a dovetail cross slide mounted to the ways much as you describe.

I found a couple of pictures of lathes very similar to mine.
