For motor connectors I rather like abusing these:

They are rated 250V and 20A. More importantly from my point of view is
that I can buy them from Maplin on a Sunday and they are fairly cheap
(£8 for a male/female pair). However the price belies the quality,
they are a clever design, and are pleasant to handle and work with.

For multipole signal connections I have been using

But I like them far less, and much prefer Lemo connectors. However
they fail the "Sunday afternoon" test.

Bear in mind that D-Sub connectors are rated at something slightly
crazy like 7.5A per pin and 750V (possibly not all at the same time)
