Did You try starting LinuxCNC with 5i25 plugged in? Take any 5i23 sample config, but in INI file change the name of card and remove the part of the "config" line, which tells the path to firmware to be loaded. I just guess that LinuxCNC / Hostmot2 firmware still might find the card and work with it.
