Chuckle, Steve.  You obviously have at least 20 more HP in spindle drive 
than I.  And because you are carrying away the heat with a much more 
massive cut, you are probably getting 200x the life out of a carbide 
insert.

Most of my "heavier" turnings seem to curl up and spiral down the center of 
the bed, in 6 foot long spirals, cutting about .004" square swarf and I'm 
out of motor.  That and off the front, in my face or shirt if I'm wearing 
one.  Either way I pick it up in big handfulls for the trip to the barrel.
