The lawn mower wouldn't start so I put the charger on it and installed a 
3/8" long 10-24 grub screw as described above.  That looks like it should 
do it, but some more experimenting with that 5 ohm 200 watt resistor shows 
that from full speed, it might damage the PM magnets, from about 2/3rds 
speed it blinked the overload twice before it got in range in the display 
of my DVM set at 20 amps full scale.  Rated at 9.1 amps & 3/4 horse in CCS.  
So it looks like I need to design a 10 amp constant current load, switch 
mode of course.

Does any of the chip people have a suitable controller for a 1 chip + 
HEXFET solution to do this job?  I did some googling but didn't seem to 
come up with a "neat" solution, one I can make from the hexfets in an old 
computer PSU.  They all seemed to have more bells and whistles than this 
job needs.  Or doofy power supply setups.

Anyway, the lock screw is in, and the mower has had an hours charge & that 
IS what I was going to do today.
