The firmware initially installed on the board can be determined by looking at
the back of the card, there will be a white label there that list the original
firmware.

The behaviour you see is consistant with a 5I25/6I25 with no 5V or field power
to the 7I77.

Take a look at the cable power section of the 7I77 manual and make sure you
have the 6I25 and 7I77 jumpers correctly set for the desired 7I77 5V power
arrangement (Either from cable or external 5V source)

If you do not have both yellow LEDS on the top edge of the 7I77 (CR1 and CR3)
illuminated you will not get too much further as the analog and field I/O
pins will not be available in HAL.

Also there are no PWMgens in a a 7I77 configuration, all analog outputs and
enables are implemented via a sserial remote and therefor will show up with
names like hm2_5i25.0.7i77.0.1.analogout3

Because of this you should start with a pncconf generated file

You will need to download the latest xml files:

http://www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum/39-pncconf/21670-5i25-firmware-xml-files-for-pncconf

or use John Thorntons example file that has hal names appropriate for the 7I77
