I finally updated my desktop machine when I realized it was bought used and ran for 12 years straight! I just updated the machine that runs my Bridgeport mill, it was set up in 2005 I think, and only updated once or twice since then. Finally, I wanted to add something that required an update to the PC hardware. (A centering camera using the camview add-on to LinuxCNC. The old PC had USB1 and would be WAY too slow, if it even worked with a camera.)
BUT, LinuxCNC has really made big strides in the past few years. A number of REAL errors have been fixed, as well as adding many capabilities.
