It's a non-trivial kinematics / World-mode limitation, nothing to do
with linked axes as such.

joints_axes is probably the best solution, but you could try:

You would use a trivkins config and use a two-axis instance of that
component just for X1 and X2. Then there is no flipping between world
mode and joint mode and the rest.
