Possible, but whats this about a "modified R8 collet"?

[snip]
Tormach sells a special 3/4" R8 collet with the nose ground flat so it doesn't
protrude past the spindle nose opening. That's to ensure the shoulder of the
TTS holder bears solidly against the spindle nose. If you're using a standard
3/4" R8 collet I suspect that's the cause of the slipping problem. The rounded
nose of the collet may be bottoming in the recess on top of the shoulder. If
it's not preventing the shoulder rim from touching the spindle nose, it may be
preventing it from making hard enough contact.
A 4C 3/4" collet has a small enough OD and small enough protrusion that it
doesn't need to be ground flat on the nose to work properly with TTS holders.
'Course the only vertical mill that uses a 4C is the vertical head on a
Hardinge UM or TM.
