grep-ing thru the git checkout. there is only a units.h, no module.
So it is looking like I will have to re-invent this wheel,  however to 
make it work correctly, I'll need two signals from a running lcnc, one 
tallying what mode the machine is in g20 or g21, and some sort of a 
signal from view controlling whether it is showing me metric or inch 
values.

And of course my own data derived from the reverseing logic that turns 
the spindle rotation measured by passing encoder pulses into inches of 
overtravel.

Thanks for any clues, as there appears to be zero such oins to get this 
data from now.
