Nope. One tooth valley at a time with a gear cutter on an arbor. > > https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PFTHY5U8v-U > > I think that the blank needs to be presented to the job at the correct angle > of > the tooth form will be distorted due to the length of the engagement. > You could use compound motion _if_ you also rotate the indexer relative to > the table slots. > A swinging table will have the advantage of angle graduations. > I do have a plan for a micrometer stop to set mine to the exact angle. I have a mill that is equivalent to the G3616 from Grizzly (not sold anymore). Shorter table and no Horizontal Spindle but the table does pivot. I'd thought about adding a riser (just to get a bit more height) and if I did I'd put a horizontal axis into it run with a Servo. Then I'd have almost the same thing as the G3617 which has a large set of belts and pulleys and the spindle running through the main casting. Really do wish I'd had the money at the time to buy the bigger one but that longer table presented space issues in my small shop. That pivoting table is what reduces the height. I have R8 arbors for my gear tooth cutters and now will have the A axis harmonic drive but if it's in the vertical spindle I think that's what has to pivot. I'd much rather do that sort of thing with a horizontal mill feature.
