This problem is made much worse when the vfd is running. So I suspect have an
Emf or grounding issue.
Is there a way to test the sserial connection? Should this cable be shielded? I
used a standard patch cable with one end chopped off.

You can set the sserial fault limit parameter to 1 and see if you get sserial errors...

I??m having an issue with jog lag when using a matrix keypad.
Keys are connected via a 7i73 board. I have each Jog key mapped to
halui.axis pins. Eg. X- is mapped to halui.axis.x.minus Is this the
correct way to connect jog keys?

It's one way, that should work.

Halui is a userspace component, so has the possibility of lagging, but
I am concerned that this might be an issue with the matrix-kb
component.

Halscope should be able to determine if the jog pin and the jog move
operate at the same time. If they do then that might indicate that
there is a problem further upstream.

I use a 7i73 + jogwheels and see no lag, but jogwheels are realtime
end-to-end.

Not sure how it would work with servo's Andy, but despite my jog dials on the sheldon having to navigate thru the encoders to get back to motion's jog inputs, they are as realtime as you can get when 90% of that signal path is in a 200HZ thread, and I don't get anywhere near halui with any of that. Its real slow. I am using it to stop and by way of halui, unhome if a driver faults, and the halui action might be up to 2 seconds after the machine stops before the home star dissapears.

Just saying...

Cheers, Gene Heskett
