Subject: Re: [Emc-users] how to control lathe spindle with a mesa 7i77 card

thanks peter

and just to confirm

is there any possibility of using the 7i77 for this? I am just a bit cagey
to connect up if it is not optically isolated as I have a 30 years old
fanuc vfd I am connecting to and I really don't want to blow it up lol

You can but I would use a common mode choke on the ground and
analog lines to keep high frequency ground currents from the VFD out of
the servo system. (you could also use 470 ohm or series resistors
in ground and analog lines)

just another question for peter

can you just confirm how the 7i77 and 7i77 spindle controls differ
please.
and if I connect up a spinx1 board do I need flash a pin file into the
6i25
or should it just work with the stock 6i52x7i77 config regards

andrew

You would need firmware that has a PWMgen on the second 6I25 connector
(5i25_7i77_7i78.bit is one possibility)

hey peter just a quick question on this spinx1 card

this looks just what I need just want to confirm a few things

my fanuc drive takes a 0-10v signal. 10v comes out from drive and it
has
a wiper and 0v just like a POT. I know I can use a 7i76 easily to run
it.

just checking that the spindx1 is the same idea. I saw reference in the
manual to a 5-18v input voltage from drive. since my input voltage is
10v
am I good to go?

the price is right on that little card and it looks perfect. I might
use
a spare 7i76 now with the 7i77 and replace it once make my next order of
mesa cards

Thanks Jon.

I am controlling a 1988 fanuc velocity spindle drive. And no Idea
about
isolation. Not keen to try it lol. Really I just want a isolated
0-10v
virtual pot like the Mesa 7i76 has. Otherwise I might daisy chain in
a
7i76 just for the spindle io. but that is such a waste lol.

If you have a spare parallel expansion slot, you could use a SPINx1
