Yes _you_ should certainly document any hal files that _you_ write.

in that zip,

Which zip?  I didn't refer to any .zip. If there is a .zip then it is
_nothing_ to do with the LinuxCNC distribution.

Sorry, but I am completely unable to advise you what might be wrong with
random zip files that you download from the internet.
