It's built in to LinuxCNC.

I just added this to my INI file [DISPLAY] section:

EMBED_TAB_NAME= cam_align
EMBED_TAB_COMMAND= qtvcp -d -c cam_align -x {XID} cam_align

And the LinuxCNC config running in a VM on my Mac started displaying the
webcam image from the built-in Mac camera. (which I am rather surprised
worked)

Silly question perhaps. If I understand the thread correctly it's possible to
mount a camera on the Z axis and use the image to center over a point in order
to accurately set the X,Y position?

If so, I've been looking into youtube videos but can't find anything with
cam_align as a key word.

There are plenty of archived message streams that mention cam_align but they
all seem to start in the middle. As in the posters already know how to use it
or what it does.

Is there a good you tube video that shows how to use a camera to align?

"LinuxCNC cam_align" doesn’t find anything useful. At least for me.

Thanks
John

I haven't found it either, probably because no one else has been able to make it work long enough to work on the scripts in align.zip. The scripts and align seem to be working here, but they are worthless w/o a working camera.

I have them working, but they've been somewhat modified, but I've not been able to make the camera work
long enough to really get it all "calibrated".

I put it all on my web page if you want to see what I've done with the scripts and pyvcp. Look at the Go704 link.
