A 7I89 with all encoders having only 'A' pins
would give you 24 channels of frequency counters
if thats whats required. You could also have a
mix of normal encoders for normal motion use
and 'A' only ones used just for frequency
counting.
That would be a really nice solution. I could use a 7i80DB (I'm not sure
the 7i92 can be connected to the 7i89) to interface with the 7i89.
A regular (non-T) 7I92 may be too small to fit all 24 counters But I can see
what fits. What 7I80DB model do you have? (-16 or -25)
Is there a firmware already available for the A input only encoders?

What other I/O do you need in the configuration?

How many encoders fit in the firmware depends on
the FPGA size so this is still TBD especially on the
smallest (XC6SLX9) FPGAs
