Hi All,

At the Social Media meeting today, we discussed wanting to post a news item
about our Board of Directors. It has been nearly a month after results -
but better late than never.

It seems like we haven't done this in the past, so this year's post can
serve as a template for future years. This is our chance to tell the larger
community about the election results, share what the purpose of the Board
is, and how people can get involved.

Please take a look at the post's content and let me know if you have any
edits or suggestions. The editable version is at the bottom of:
https://etherpad.gnome.org/p/July_2016_Social_Media, and on gnome.org's
news items queue
<https://www.gnome.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=7259&action=edit>.

It'd be great to post this on Wednesday, so please add your thoughts and
edits before then. Thanks!

Best,
Nuritzi

GNOME Board of Directors Announced

ORINDA, CA. The GNOME Foundation welcomes its new Board of Directors for
the upcoming 2016 – 2017 term:

   - Allan Day
   - Nuritzi Sanchez
   - Cosimo Cecchi
   - Meg Ford
   - Alexandre Franke
   - Shaun McCance
   - Jim Hall

Congratulations!

This year we had 253 registered voters, 142 of which sent in valid ballots.
Elections ran during the months of May and June, and the new Board was
officially
announced
<https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00607.html> on
June 18, 2016.

Since their official election, the new Board has been onboarded by last
year’s Board, and outbound members have begun to transition responsibility
to new members. The remaining responsibilities will be handed over during
the annual GUADEC conference in Karlsruhe, Germany this August. At that
time, the new Board will vote on the position of each member.

The Board of Directors is an important part of the GNOME Foundation. It
ensures the health of the organization by working on operational and legal
items that help keep the Foundation in order. It also helps to manage the
relationship with the Advisory Board and to promote the overall well-being
of the GNOME Project. You can find out more about our Board by
visiting the Foundation
page <https://www.gnome.org/foundation/> of our website, or you can contact
the Board by sending an email to [email protected].

The GNOME Foundation encourages those active in the GNOME community to
apply for Foundation membership so that they can vote in upcoming elections.

Welcome to our new Board, and thanks again to everyone who participated
in this year’s Board of Directors elections!
