my thoughts: the way incremental search is implemented in pspad is fine for its purpose: a extremely fast and simple search, it does its job great the way the search dialog is implemented in pspad is fine for its purpose: a full-control search with normal, medium and advanced options "thinking out of the box", the best i can find to your problems with this (and just its an idea for when the updated gui comes in process): a toolbar, little, with a text input box, which is the incremental search as it is now, it should get focus when the incremental search hotkey is pressed and return it to the editor when finishing/cancelling the search. the "advantages" would be that the previous n searchES can be there in a dropdown list, the very last search can be there also (though when calling the search it should be selected, this way writing the new search will erase the previous unless you deselect), case sensitive/whole words can be put also if needed, and it will be visible all the time for the people who likes it that way (since its a toolbar), and if invisible, when calling it should appear, and when cancelling it, it should hide again (return to previous state, that is) the search dialog would be (or can be) non-modal, and not a dialog, but a "page" in either side of the program, just like any of the panels. it would have every option it has now, and works exactly as it does now (excepting for the modal way), much like the search panel in adobe reader 7 (which surely most people will have it installed to check it out, you must choose advanced search, not simple, or press the toolbar button for search) even the list of search results can be in the panel itself if wanted instead of in the bottom-log area (and yeah, the list is important sometimes, something that ff cant do, theres no way someone would want to have the incremental search only, without the complete search, you lose any advanced features that would have otherwise...) theres more things that could be in panels also from my point of view, like the search in files, the syntax highlighting list (allows for faster changing), clips (for the people who likes it all the way there), last opened files (i like it, from my word xp), and the docking preview window (thought this one maybe not in sides but up/down...) its just my thoughts and ideas, and not intended to be there soon, maybe should be peace now with them, hehe... -- PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
