For me (on those rare occasions when I've used it), it's primarily for two
reasons:
(1) I'm lazy <G>
(2) As long as I'm sure the phone number entered is correct, I'm assured
that it will be dialed correctly.
#2 is especially relevant when dialing a number I don't use frequently.
Otherwise I'm constantly glancing at the number to make sure I have it
right, and that makes it more likely that I might hit a wrong button on the
phone.
And since my phone is, literally, right beside my computer, it's not a
problem for me to have to pick up the receive as soon as it starts ringing.
Besides which, you have to pick it up anyway so the person you're calling
can talk to you...this method just adds a bit of urgency to that step.
