Corrupt preference file

Has anyone else run into a problem where you get the error message:

"The preferences file could not be opened.
The end of file was reached."

I've gotten it twice, and it's a big pain in the butt.  I have to go back
through and reset all of my preferences as well as recreate my accounts.
