Why not leave the original names untouched, and simply use alias' that you
can name whatever you want? Seeing as how the MS updater is not unique in
that behavior (Adobe apps do it as well), I have been doing this for years
and it works just fine.
Don't get me wrong, I believe your comments about the updater logic are
right on and better error checking should be part of these things, but this
is my work-around to keep things running fine with updaters.
