I'm surprised that you never use AppleScript, but then, I can't put myself
in anyone else's shoes. For me, I would not do without it. If it were not
for my desire for good scriptability, I'd probably still be using Eudora
Lite or Apple's Mail on OS X (and they are adding to its scriptability all
the time). I agree that my analogy about tires was a bit extreme. I thought
of saying "without cushioned upholstery" or something like that, but it
didn't have the impact. :-)

After consideration, I guess I'm reacting largely out of shock, and
annoyance at spending a half-hour trying to help someone, a novice user,
debug a script, only to discover that his version of Entourage did not
support scripting. I meant my message primarily as a "heads up" to anyone
who might be considering, or recommending, the SE.

I love Entourage, and think you guys have done more to give Microsoft a good
name with Mac users than anyone. But I still think that it's a shame that to
get "full" Entourage, including scripting, hot syncing, spell checking, and
auto-correction, a person is forced to spend $150 to buy Word as well. That
compares poorly, price-wise, with other mail clients on the market. Yes,
they are getting Word, too, but what if they are perfectly happy with
AppleWorks or whatever they already have? It prices it at what, to me, seems
to be the high end for home users, and definitely out of reach for a lot of
people who are thrilled to get an iMac for $899, and are not prepared to pay
1/6 the price of their computer to get a better mail client. I know a lot of
small businesses that balk at paying $150 for software--any software.
