I'm not _planning_ on installing the software more than once.

But when I do regular backups of my HD, I don't back up my applications
themselves, just my documents, Microsoft User Data folder, etc. All my
applications are easily re-installed from the CD's, so I don't waste CD-R's
on backing them up (unless they've been significantly updated).

In the event of a HD failure/catastrophic crash, I may need to re-install
all my apps again. This is why I was asking, to see how complicated the
procedure would be with Office X. It sounds perfectly simple.

(Case in point, I don't have a backup of Entourage with SR1 applied to it.)
