I assume you mean that <you> started to back up using Retrospect, not the
rebuild. Right? Otherwise, there's a very cool unadvertised feature in
Erage...;-)

Yeah, an actual physical copy is advisable. I use the AppleScript that
copies the MUD folder periodically. I've just been cleaning up the OS X
versions. I have two variations; one runs from within Entourage's script
menu (and quits Entourage to do the backup); the other runs from the system
Script Menu (it checks to see if Entourage is open, and if so, quits it).
Both also quit the Database Daemon, which gets restarted when you relaunch
Entourage. I set the script up on an Entourage Schedule to run at 5:30 AM
every morning, so I have a daily backup. The script (originally written by
Jeff Porten about one year ago) keeps two generations of backup, and
automatically purges the oldest before making the new backup. The drawback
is that it means you have three copies of your MUD folder, which can get
huge, as we know. That's one reason I also archive with eMessage Archiver. I
keep the MUD folder down to about 120 MB, which backs up in under two
minutes.

I periodically back up the FileMaker archives created by eMA to an external
disk drive.
