Steven, as someone else suggested, I think perhaps you're confusing router
functionality with switch functionality. AFAIK, Airport Base Station acts
like a router, and might offer a reasonable degree of "downstream" security.

When I posted my comment, it was in response to someone who suggested
configuring a network as "Easy, cable/dsl modem to switch , airport to
switch... That's all". I was simply pointing out that this could leave
security vulnerabilities.

If you plug your cable/DSL modem directly to a hub or switch, and have other
computers plugged into that hub or switch, you are leaving yourself open for
hackers.
