I don't think Office X looks outside the local area network. However, there
is an important distinction that Microsoft makes in its licensing scheme
that I think is dishonest, unethical, and downright stupid.

The scheme will not permit you do use ANY COMPENENT of Office on your
desktop if ANY COMPONENT of Office is running on your notebook. Ie if you
are cheking your mail with Entourage on your notebook you cannot use Word on
your desktop.

Office Mac is 4 DIFFERENT programs but Microsoft, for licensing purposes,
treats them as one. Obviously Microsoft is trying to say, "We want every
penny in your piggy bank." However, given the realities of the computer
world, what they are really saying is, "Hey, use your browser, go to one of
those sites we all know about, and just grab a pirated license."

I seldom agree with the super pundit Dvorak, but he has a column up on PCMag
right now about piracy and the software industry's license Gestapo that I
really do agree with. Microsoft WANTS people to pirate software so it can
catch them at it and get massive fines.
