Having not been through the episode with the previous reminder, I did not look at my preferences to see how they were set.
They are currently (were) set to tentatively accept- therefore I now have a new calendar event. I did notice however, that there is the option to Accept - Decline- Tentatively Accept on top of the message in the yellow band.
