Entourage 2001:

The only notification I received was the yellow strip above the message
window that reads, "You have not responded, etc. Please open and respond."

The item does appear on my calendar -- but not under Calendar Events (though
the Conduit message does) -- and here's something else interesting: The
item was apparently entered on my calendar the moment your message was
downloaded. I know this because I was checking the Calendar for something
to do with the Conduit event and noticed a MacWorld event on July 19. This
was before I opened your invitation. I guess that's how it's supposed to
work.

I just Tentatively accepted your invitation to see if that would put the
event into Calendar Events but it didn't. I can, however, double-click on
it to open and delete it if I wish.
