Have you been reading this thread? The receipt of the invitation is not at all clear to many users on this list (hence why we're even having this discussion), and takes place (in certain cases) without the user being aware of it. As an example, if I was being sneaky, I could just hide an invitation to pop up an advert in a reply to an old thread. For those users which have mailing list messages automatically filed, chances are the majority won't notice it. A handful of geeks who religiously read every single message probably will, and simply decline, clueless as to the implications of the mechanism in use. Several days or weeks later, my message pops up, and regardless of content, it WILL be seen by a captive audience that then HAS to acknowledge a dialog pop-up. Hence, this has the potential to be exploited. Hence, why it would be a good idea to address the actual problem, instead of (as usual) laying the blame squarely at the user's feet.
