Entourage saves the original database.

Old files are named:
Entourage X: "Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"

Entourage 2001: "Old Database Cache", "Old Database", and "Old Messages." In
addition, Database (Rebuild) Cache is retained.

Remove the OLD from the name and try the rebuild again with the newly
updated Entourage. You'll need to move the rebuilt files out, obviously.

I would copy the original database before you start experimenting. In the
future, set a Task to remind you to make a copy of your database. I do this
every 3 days and leave my mail on the server for 3 days.
