Calvin,
When you saw the size of 2GB+, what file/folder were you looking at?
In OS X, the Entourage database is kept inside the folder
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/your-EvX-identity/, and
the file is called "Database". ("~" represents your "Home" folder as an OS X
user; this is NOT the Documents folder that is at the top level of your
startup disk.)
If you were looking at the right file you were looking at that Database
file.
After your rebuild attempts, you will probably see in that same folder other
files called "Old Database" and "Old Database 1". The first time you attempt
a rebuild operation, it renames the file called "Database" to "Old Database"
and creates a new "Database" file in which it will write the rebuilt data.
However, if the rebuild fails (as it did in your case), the file called
"Database" is now an incomplete copy. When you ran the second rebuild,
_that_ file got renamed to "Old Database 1", and a third "Database" file was
created. Notice that the actual database didn't get into the picture at all
in the second attempt!
View the folder in List View to be certain, sorting it on the Modification
Date column. The database file you want is the oldest one (unless you have
done rebuilds previously, in which case you want the database with a date
just prior to the two failed rebuilds). Delete the others (they are
incomplete) and rename the oldest file to "Database".
Now, once again launch Entourage, skip the simple rebuild, and try the
Advanced Rebuild. This time, it may work. Let us know what happens
