Do you have Leave a copy of each message on server selected in your
Account. Look under the Options tab. If this is the problem, then you can
select to delete them without downloading by using Online Access. See
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/onlineaccess.html> for how to use
this feature.

FYI..when Entourage crashed it sounds like it lost the info on the messages
you had downloaded, thus you continue to download the messages that were
left on the server.

Now to your system crashing...this has to be addressed. I suggest doing an
archive and install. "Archive and Install." moves existing system files to a
folder named Previous System and then installs Mac OS X again.

You should elect to preserve your user and network settings during the
installation. This option automatically imports existing users, Home
directories, and network settings. This means it also skips the Setup
Assistant after installation.

Important: Before starting the installation, you may wish to use Disk
Utility. Refer to technical document 25505, "Mac OS X 10.2: Directory Issue
Verification or Repair Is Not Part of Installation".

1. Start up from your Mac OS X 10.x Install Disc 1.
2. Select your language. The Welcome to the Mac OS X Installer window
appears.
3. Click Continue. The Important Information window appears.
4. After reading or printing the information, click Continue. The Software
License Agreement window appears.
5. After reading or printing the information, click Continue.
6. An agreement sheet appears. If you agree with the license agreement,
click Agree. The Select a Destination window appears.
7. Click Options. The installation options sheet appears.
8. Select Archive and Install.
9. Select the volume which already has Mac OS X installed.
10. You should also select Preserve Users and Network Settings
11. Click OK.
12. Click Continue to begin the installation.

After this you should be crash free.
